The Importance of Christ's Resurrection

The resurrection of Jesus is just as crucial as His death on the cross. 1 Corinthians 15:12 - 21

This passage makes the argument that we have to believe that there is resurrection for the dead. It explains that if we don't believe that the dead is raised then Chris Himself couldn't have been raised! And if Christ wasn't raised, then our salvation (and Christ's sacrifice) was futile. This chapter explains that if you haven't acknowledged Jesus' resurrection, that we are all still dead in sin. In the book of Mark Jesus was questioned by the Sadducees who did not believe in the resurrection and in Jesus' rebuttal he makes reference to the dialogue between God and Moses as proof that God is "not the God of the dead, but the God of the living" (Mark 12:27)

Note how God presented Himself as: "The God of Abraham Isaac and Jacob". In fact, God chooses to present Himself in this way and is referred to in this manner about a dozen times throughout the bible. (A few examples being: Matthew 22:32, Acts 3:13, Exodus 3:16 etc.)

The point we're trying to make is that God, being a God of the living and not the dead would not have referenced these men as part of His title if they weren't living (in Him/in Christ). God used this title with Moses, and Moses being part of their lineage, this was a time long past the deaths of all three men. God would not have used their names if their spirits had truly died with their bodies. From this we can infer that surely, they are all alive with God! 1 Peter 1:1 - 3

Now for us to experience the newness of life Jesus needed to overcome death.

Think about it.

If it wasn't possible for Him to overcome Death, then how could He deliver us from it?

Acts 2:24 - 28 states that death couldn't keep it's hold on Him!

Without the resurrection we cannot experience eternal life. The death of Christ was the way for God to reconcile us back to Himself, and the resurrection was His way of allowing us to again start walking in a newness of life. A new spirit-man. A cleansed spirit-man. A spirit that is no longer dead in sin, but now dead to sin. This is the significance of the resurrection of Christ.

Finally, we need to understand that we are DEAD TO SIN to SEE that God has provided us with a new state of existence which we refer to as the Newness of Life (see Romans 6:4). The Newness of Life can also be referred to as the DIVINE Nature mentioned in 2 Peter 1:4. The Word Divine in Greek is ‘theios’ which means godlike. In other words, the fact that we are now dead to sin means that we now possess in our spirit-man a godlike nature that is completely free from sin. God now implores us to walk in the Newness of Life (the godlike nature that we possess in our spirit-man).

Therefore, sin does not rule in your spirit man because you have received the Newness of Life, but sin rules in your mortal body (see Romans 6:12).

God desires that the Newness of Life would influence or have an impact upon what Paul mentions in Romans 6:6, the Body of sin. Therefore, the body of sin can ONLY be destroyed by what you know or see is true for you in your spirit-man. This is why we need to realize how dead you are to sin so that the power of Grace can work through your confession of faith for deliverance to take place IN THE BODY OF SIN.

There is an indestructible Life that lives inside of us which we need to walk by – and the more we walk by this LIFE it will destroy the sin that is at work in the body. if you wish to delve further into this topic, you can watch our full Sunday Session on youtube: Doctrine of Christ - Alive in Christ - Session 7 - Pastor JP Huish
